Blackwall tunnel Penalty charge notice
« on: »
I have received a Penalty notice from TFL for not paying the toll to use Blackwall tunnel.

I paid for a return journey for the Dartford tunnel as I travelled to my destination using the Dartford tunnel and was suppose to come back the same way however my satnav took me back via Blackwall tunnel but I did not realised that the payment needs to be made to 2 separate entities.

I paid for 2 journeys on the Dartford toll website.  Which now in hindsight is my stupidity of not knowing the difference but also I did not know you have to pay to use the Blackwall tunnel either.  I am not familiar with the area and I was not driving, so didn't pay too much attention to where I was.  That evening on my return I paid the Dartford tunnel charge for a return trip.  I didn't see my return trip but thought there is a delay on the system but still paid.

I can show that I have paid for a return journey on the Dartford tunnel, and that I had full intentions to pay but not sure if this will be acceptable.  Can anyone please advise? £90 fine is a lot of money.

There's huge blue signs advising drivers to pay the Blackwall tunnel tolls. Maybe suggest that whoever was driving your car pay the fine? I don't see any other way round it.

As another respected member said on here recently regarding speeding and camera locations, Something along the lines of use the huge picture built into your car called the windscreen and stop looking at the small screen of the satnav. The coucil helpfully puts signs up to warn you of things on the road.

Maybe the Dartford authority will refund your fee paid there, I don't know, I have an account with them so don't need to worry. Similarly I have a TfL account which covers all things like Blackwall Tunnel, ULEZ, C zone etc. Maybe phone TfL to see if they'll drop the fine, but don'y hold out much hope.

Bus driving since 1973. My advice, if you have a PSV licence, destroy it when you get to 65 or you'll be forever in demand.
